Hi julie....

its me christian, i asked you the other day on facebook for your e-mail to send you a little song i wanted you and tim (especially tim!) to hear called 'i want to be in the polyphonic spree'. I recorded it a couple years ago though, and i didn't know tims name wasn't pronounced that way (we don't have the name 'delaughter' in england) so i apologise for that, i bet its annoying.

I hope you guys like it. My favourite three bands of all time are the beach boys, suede and the polyphonic spree.

yeah, of course! oh by the way, check out my bands new ep... its different sort of stuff, we're a sort of pop/punk/indie band called the valentines. We like doo-wop and punk and well... just pop music really. My singings a bit different than on the spree song... i sing softer on home recordings you see.

i'm glad you like it! I always wanted to see you guys live... i came close once, when you played in birmingham for the fragile army tour. My girlfriend got us tickets, and we travelled up from brighton - i was so excited. Then when we got there she had mixed up the dates and you played the previous night. I was really upset. Then when we were at home the next night i saw you on jonathan ross and i got even more upset. She bought me a jacket to make up for it but it didn't quite cut the mustard.... anyway, i was heartbroken. I really hope you come to the uk again. But anyway, yeah! put it on the site by all means! I'd be incredibly honoured...that'd be splendid!

Guitar Lessons with The Polyphonic Spree Guitarist!

Hello everyone! That's right, I will come to your house (via webcam) and give you one on one guitar lessons! I'll gladly accept all ages, beginner to advanced. We can work on exactly what you want to work on. Whether you just want to be able to play along with your favorite songs, play by ear,improvise,learn a bit of theory, or even write your own songs, I'd love to help! I can also help you with getting different tones,choosing and using effects, guitars, amps, and other equipment. I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to meet fans of the band, and just anyone with an interest in playing guitar, which is something I always enjoy doing.

Invisible Children & La Blogotheque Invite Fans To Help Raise Funds For A Film Collaboration With The Polyphonic Spree That Will Help End Child Soldiering In Uganda

SAN DIEGO, JANUARY 27, 2009- The media-based non-profit organization Invisible Children and internationally recognized music portal La Blogotheque are teaming up to take orchestral genius’s The Polyphonic Spree and two other high caliber bands (TBD) to Gulu, Uganda where a rebel leader has been abducting children and forcing them to fight as child soldiers. The entire trip will be captured on film as bands are exposed to the devastating effects of the 24 year long war, along with the resilience of the people trying to stop it. The result will be a radically new kind of music documentary that will be sold to raise funds for Invisible Children’s life changing programs.

This collaborative film will not only document the bands and their experience with Ugandan culture, but will capture spontaneous acoustic performances along the way. As the history is revealed to the bands they will choose different settings in which to play their music that will be captured in the vein of La Blogotheque’s widely popular Take Away Shows (shows that capture bands playing outside their usual venue environment ie. Arcade Fire performing in an elevator or Sigur Ros performing in a restaurant). Among the gorgeous ambiance of Gulu’s vast landscapes these settings will act as the link between the majestically filmed Take Away Show and the story of the Ugandan people.

Invisible Children & La Blogotheque made the announcement via Kickstarter.com, a community based fundraising website that allows filmmakers, artists, etc. to present their projects to the public. Anyone and everyone visiting the site can then decide to fund the project through small or large donations in return for exclusive memorabilia from the film (digital downloads, signed photobooks, etc) or even film credit. Through the many small donations, Invisible Children and La Blogotheque are looking to receive the support from people who believe that this film will translate the redeeming power of music to ignite social and cultural change.

This was done in NYC as well. I did it on a radio shack
handheld tape recorder. I had nothing set up to record
with yet. So, I just grabbed the easiest tool to get this
song down, before I lost the idea. (I do that a lot.
Lose songs, cause I have no way of recording at times.)

Anyway, it had a half speed adjustment on it. So, I used it.
I really like the pixie-ish character feeling, it gives me with
these lyrics about Julie.

Well, I made the decision to include you on my song ideas...
no matter how crude the sonic quality. Obviously I had
the mic a little too close to the organ so the lyrics are
somewhat buried which is a drag for me. But I still wanna share.

By the way, each song ya hear was written and recorded in
the same day...hence, sticking to my mission. When this
one was going down it was really late and I kept messing up,
Julie told me to keep going. You'll hear it.

Hi. This is Julie catching up a bit for Timmy D. before I head back to Nyc early in morning where he's still in a bubble/wonderful little space in West Village writing...he's without internet there so I'm helping out. So here we go....

Tim just found out he's up for (obviously just a contender) a chance of getting to become the composer for the next season's Showtime series The United States of Tara but on immediate deadline, of course!. Anyway, he has incredibly limited gear to do much more than anything but just "write"... so thankfully, Benny B, who luckily lives close by is at the apt now to lend a helping hand with his recording goods. (This would be Benjamin Curtis of The School of Seven Bells..an old friend and young spirit of UFOFU, Tripping Daisy and The Secret Machines..I mention his projects because ya should def check out his latest band first mentioned/amazing!)...

Anyway, all good because the deadline is, ha, NOW and Tim is def out of his comfort zone of home studio/Mark Pirro in hometown of Dallas. Mark engineers most everything in regards to these type of projects we participate in! But even stranger, we found out the theme song we recorded as a family (literally) for this show that ran last season was announced as an Emmy nominee this morning. Woke to a wonderful email congratulating us. AWESOME. Even better, we're real fans of the show! You can find a link here to check it out...also, look for a full song version of it on next Poly album. Can't remember for sure but I think we named it "The Ride"??????

I was on the rim of the Grand Canyon when i heard the rumblings of Michael Jackson "had an heart attack" I was immediately sick...... I'm looking out across this beautiful reduction of earth.

It was and is beautiful! (we're out on an outting for Mark Pirro's bachelor party) Then 20 minutes later Tony tells me he's dead......... I could not and would not except this news...... So, kept asking him "are you sure"?! "are you sure"?!!! He said " yeah they are talking bout it on CNN" (not that I put that much stock in CNN) but, it sounded like it was true, the way he was reacting to his friend on the other line. Then I realized it was true.. I started to cry and wished Julie was with me cause, I knew she was just as crushed as I was, along with my kids. Our son Oscar was a huge Michael Jackson fan, he dances to him all the time. Two days before we left my daughter Stella said "listen to this song Oscar and i sing together" The song was "Ben" they sang it a'capella. It was AWESOME!!

That was comforting for me, remembering that moment.

This is the first time I've had internet service. (in Arizona) I'm still in shock.....

I haven't seen any TV out here and haven't look for any news.

Wanted to express my heartfelt loss for this man and his kids.

He was one of the most spirited human beings "WE" have been graced with.

What a loss.

Just go watch him as a kid on youtube and see it that "wonder" that we all have.

It's just that, he knew it early on and we got the privilege to get experience it.

I will miss him along with my family.

Hi, people of the world.

HOPE all is well with you! (and if not) IT WILL TURN AROUND!

We'll as you can see, I haven't put up that song.

Which means, my lunch with Adam turned out to be unproductive, in ah since of, figuring out the posting of said song. (I'm on it) Wasn't his fault, I didn't even bring it up so, I got that going for me which is nice.

But, we had a GREAT visit and good food and a few drinks and met a couple of friends of his from his work. Great guys.

I also, stayed around to watch this band. He used to be in the Redwalls, played guitar.

He was at the place we were at and we saw each other. Cant remember his name, (I suck at that) faces i know it's just the name of the face that escapes me everytime. (So, if we ever bump into each other and i remember you with some sort of enthusiasm means I remember you, just not your name. Don't take personally.) It's a handicap.

The bands name escapes me. They were headlining. I came into the club (pianos) while the band prior to them was still on. They had 2 songs left, and they knocked my socks off!

They gave me the ROCK i needed at the time, wish i had seen more. Rhythm section awesome! loved it!

I do remember their name cause i text Julie right after. their called "twin shadows" Now i only caught the last 2 songs. So, I can't fully recommend them, But, what I saw was GREAT! so check em out, their from here, NYC.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS show up for the opening band (unless you know) "you never know what the tide will bring" (Tom Hanks Cast Away)

The band I came to see was really good as well. I think I was just ready for some rock after those guys. They (twin shadows) kinda set my tone for the evening. I will say this.. about the band I came to see. The lead singer was very genuine and cares about peoples well being and THAT is HUGE to translate that to the public. He's sings about situations he's been in with his girlfriend etc.

Sensitive, passionate and very friendly. (which is nice to know, especially since he was the first person i saw after the first band, and was going on and on to him about that band that had just finished, about "how awesome that was"!) I didn't know he was the lead singer of the band i came to see till he popped up on stage and started setting up. That was pretty uncomfortable.

Next day:

Hooked up with mine and Julie's good friend Heather who was celebrating a very special birthday with her man Rolyn (the artist/creator of weesee). We did Momofuko which is a staple, for us every time we come up here, (chicken buns) and sake. But we had "Lone Star" beer. (it was her birthday) Then we went to "Chickalious" sp? just deserts that's all they do.

And, their the BEST!

I bid them a farewell and off i went....

I met up with Phil Karnats and his sweet wife Lindsey, we had a great visit. He's here, for a show, their playing tonight. (Secret Machines) I will be going to that tonight with Jay Jennings (one of our trumpet players. The one without the fro) and his girl. He just moved up here, so you may see him out and about if your in the NYC area.

I left there and went home, and stayed in the apt for about 35 hours without leaving, writing and messing with garageband. I have no internet where I'm staying.

So, I'm in a Starbucks typing away and I have to go>

been on a journey, like us all. (compliments of Julie, she made this happen for me.) I love her for that and much much more.

In NYC as we speak, doing some writing, visiting friends and working on the future.

Hey, what's up? Sorry for the delay in given you the skinny.

LA Wee See launch was perfect! Great to see some familiar folks as well as meeting some

new enthusiastic humans towards Wee See.

The Polyphonic Spree is doing what it does, continues to navigate their daily lives.

Writing has been going on consistently. Have been doing alot of jams lately with other folks in the community. The other night had a few peeps from the group Mt. Righteous.

I had presented them their award at "The Quick Awards Show" at the Granada Theater (I was asked if I would present the final awards for the evening. Which I was honored to do so by the way) It was a interesting evening for me, because I had never done that before and I was a bit nervous. But, it all worked out and prompted me to ask them (Mt. Righteous) if they wanted to jam. So we did and it was a blast! Their a good group of kids and I enjoyed improvising with them, switching instruments and such. Wish them all the best.

I have been working on getting my Identity back from Myspace and Facebook. It seems there have been people impersonating as me,(Tim DeLaughter) without me knowing.

I know this sounds alittle naive to not know this till recently, but as you may or may not know. I have really never been very active or should say interactive on these forums regarding myself.

It's always been with TPS and even then my input was pretty void.

So, after I decided to take back all TPS related sites, (creative content etc). It spawned us (Julie and I to check out "me". That's when we discovered the impostors.

So, I apologize for those of you who thought you were talking to me, and maybe getting no response or info etc. This is being worked out as we speak.

The Tim DeLaughter myspace is sorted and you will see the link on The Polyphonic Spree friends area. Although, it's up. It's not quite realized please be patient. As far as The Facebook is concerned it's being handled and should be rectified soon. Will keep you posted.

This is all happening with the gracious help of Josh and My friend Mark. (leaving last name out on purpose) who are quite savvy in this area.

Hello.... humans and whatever else is reading this....

HOPE all is well with you all. Just got back from NYC, from our first Wee See launch party,

which was an evening filled with reminiscing with old friends and frolicking with new and interesting and engaging people. What a night!

We do this in Dallas tomorrow night... can't wait and ready for whatever pops up.

We leave for LA on June 1st for the launch on June 2nd.

After our NYC launch party we made it to the Toadies show at Irving Plaza which was a blast from the past, they were GREAT! and it was fun seeing them enjoying themselves. Happy for those guys and couldn't help but to cut a rug with em and ended playing drums with Mark and Tony.

Great day and night.

The following day (in NYC) we (Julie and I) were invited to engage dialogue with some incredible people. The platform was designed for the progress/process of inspiring each other in our everyday workings of life.

Quite moving, in so many ways. We should all get together some time and share our beliefs on the self-workings of living. I know, I can get pretty crazy about this subject and all it's possibilities.

So, it's nice to hear other perspectives, and the reaffirming of ones own navigating practices.

I would like to share something with you all.

We are no longer on the Orchard Group record label. They're the ones that bought TVT (nightmare) our previous label.

To make this happen, they (Orchard) were gracious enough to let us buy our

record (The Fragile Army) back, along with our freedom from any future

ties to them.

We are now back on our own label (Good Records)

Where we started from in the first place in the year 2000, with the release of The Beginning Stages of.....

So, this now means we have come full circle.

What a "long and strange trip that was"

Thanks to all those labels who were brave enough to harbor such a project, your efforts were

appreciated. (except for TVT.. although I can't say we weren't warned)

These are exciting times for us all, for too many reasons to list.

I will say the song writing began yesterday, on May the 12th.

(i don't mean there hasn't been any approaching new song ideas,

that's been going on for awhile now)

I say, "began yesterday" because yesterday I decided to complete a song a day,

instead of bits and pieces of ideas.

So, there's 2 that are complete, and the shape of the theme has been born, for the future

ears who care.

I think i will share snip-its of the bare bones of the songs, (just me and acoustic) to give you an idea of where it starts from, before it's completely realized with full band.

I will ponder this with Julie and we'll see what we can work out.

Well, what day it was yesterday.
We played a show at Greenhill, a K thru 12th grade school.
We played in the "quad" (kinda like a courtyard/commons area) where the kids had their lunch
(Hot dogs and hamburgers and lemonade) outside, while we we're playing music.
It was a constant rotation of different grades lunch periods.

I was pretty anxious the day before because we (the band) hadn't played together for a while and we we're missing some key players i.e. Nick (piano), who was busy writing a 20 page paper for school. (he goes to North Texas). So it was kinda hectic trying to go thru songs without a piano player plus a few other missing players to boot, while putting a set together for the rotation of kids lunch periods. This meant continuous playing without feeling like "we just played that song" and "are these cool for this age group" etc.

The rehearsal was, in my opinion, kinda like a train wreck, (that's why I was anxious) but some people in the band disagree with me on the "train wreck" part. (different perspectives)

We had to be there at 8:30 in the morning for load in and a line check. All this was going on by the way, with kids and faculty all around.
We started promptly at 11:15 and didn't stop till 1:20. We dove right in with "hold me now" and so on.
We did quite abit of improvising, which I always love to do.
I brought alot of hand held percussion instruments (shakers, maracas, bell chimes, tambourines, blocks etc) for the kids to play while we we're playing, to keep it really interactive.
The kids we're GREAT!
They we're very excited to be a part of the music. It was AWESOME to see the expressions on their faces and their enthusiasm towards keeping time and playing with the band.

What was perceived to be a cluster of an unfocused musical experience (in my mind) the day before.
Turned out to be a WONDERFULLY focused musical experience day for us all. "Many magical moments for sure" Julie says.
Not to mention the kids that we're inspired in ways they don't even realize yet.
So, all in all, it worked out, just like it ALWAYS does. Try to remember the power of the unknown. (I'm talking to myself, feel free to apply to yourself) Life has a way kicking in when you need it.
Oh, it also helps to be in The Polyphonic Spree.

Mental Cabaret Video

Yukfoo is an Animation studio based in New Zealand. We took on the Mental Cabaret video as a side project because The Spree has been a regular on the studio playlist for several years and we wanted to help them out with a bit of animated weirdness. We took a lot longer than we should have to make the video as the studio got busy almost the minute we took the project on, so we're glad the Spree isn't a black metal band from Norway, cause we've heard that they are a lot less tolerant of tardiness when it comes to making music videos.

The apocryphal/apocalyptic story told in the video cannot be blamed on The Spree in any way, as Tim said right up front that the visual interpretation of the song was up to us, so, if the video destroys the mental picture that you have in your head when you hear Mental Cabaret, Yukfoo is located in Ponsonby, Auckland, New Zealand (a rather expensive flight from most parts of the world) should you need to conduct a revenge mission. We hope that the Mental Cabaret video does the business for The Spree because, more than most, they deserve to dominate the world of music.

Howdy!
Have you missed us? We've totally missed you! Getting ready to head off to Summerfest at the moment... 5 am shuttle call!

Acutally, I'm still packing. I really dislike it. I'm always over thinking what I will or wont need. Then I spend way to much time trying on outfits for the different climates, rabbit trailing on the web, looking through books or magazines I should be saving for the flight, and next thing you know its 11:45 pm, I'm still not done.... You'd think after all these years I'd change my ways.

So I'm really excited to play again. Live shows are just the best.
We've been doing a little of this and that over the past few months. Just finished recording something really juicy a couple days ago. Hmmmm wanna guess?

And... probably since you've seen us last, we've added to our family. Cory Helms, a wicked awesome guitar player, and totally nice guy.

Also we got new uniforms, experimenting with leotards, you can get yours at the merch booth.

WHAT JUST HAPPENED? will screen on Friday, April 4th at the Landmark Inwood Theater, with Robert De Niro in attendance for a Q&A session following the film. Starring an exceptional cast including Robert DeNiro, Bruce Willis, Sean Penn, Catherine Keener, Stanley Tucci and John Turturro, the film adaptation of Art Linson’s account of his day-to-day existence as a studio producer resonates with truth, insight, and the absurdity that often fills our lives.

AFI DALLAS will also team with the Sundance Channel for two environmental showcases sponsored by Lexus that include thought-provoking episodes from BIG IDEAS FOR A SMALL PLANET (screening Saturday, March 29th at the Dallas Museum of Art) and FIGHTING GOLIATH: TEXAS COAL WARS (screening Friday, April 5th at the Angelika Film Center). These Sundance Channel presentations, though not for competition, are part of the Environmental Visions category and place additional emphasis on AFI DALLAS’ focus on the environment and conservation as a whole.

ATOM NINE ADVENTURES

Howdy! Miss you all. Just a little update, some new news for most of you....

1. Oh I Feel Fine video..coming out on at&t blue room march 25. basically we had a couple of days to give them something "exclusive" so we decided on phil's remix he'd done awhile back and visually pulled footage from or last xmas/rock show..but we weren't sure how to make the footage seem cohesive to an obviously recorded/remixed track that we never perform live. so, while at mile's house/editor brainstorimg, his sweet dog abby became a very apparent source! we took her out into the backyard of his home and tim and her had long, thoughtful conversation about the spree. you'll see.

2. in the studio..the speekers (tim, julie and mark) scoring a childrens' dvd...can't tell ya name of it yet because the creator is in process of crossing t's and i's! we'll just say in concept it will appeal to most everyone around the world! yet the intial inspiration was born from the need to enlighten and entertain infants! we're hoping to finish it by june and find placement in nyc's moma museum!

Lakewood Family Education Night last week at Lakewood Elementary School featured one of the most well-known names on the Dallas, and way beyond, music scene.

A parred-down version of Polyphonic Spree played two interactive sets for parents and kids and staff and faculty involved with the school. The evening also featured a taco bar catered by Mariano's, plus math games, and benefit efforts.

Also read a little tidbit from my dear friend Two Tone Turner on the making of The Polyphonic Spree version Carol Of The Bells.

That song was super fun to make! The girls, mostly Jennifer and Jessica, if I remember right, came up with the "original lyrics," based on Louis' direction for that part of the script, then I worked them into an SATB arrangement that worked for us from a copy of the sheet music Potsie found. We learned it around the piano one morning in Jess' awesome living room, and then rushed over to Mark's to record it. There were only about six or seven of us that day, so we all sang multiple parts in the multi-tracking. Mark even sang the bass part with me, I helped out on alto (a stretch, believe me), and Julie, Potsie, and I tripled up on the tenor since we were short on guys. Mark and I did the mix, with Mark engineering, of course (one of his many specialties). It took us the shorter part of long, busy morning.

Ah, the good old days.

HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA UPDATE...

We want to encourage all people attending the show to either come are your own original Elf or dress in festive red and/or green for the holidays.

Also, The Cousins will be rocking out in the lobby. Other kiddos can join in after their set on the instruments provided a la "School Of Rock."

Wow! What a tour. Been home less than 24 and just reflecting. That was the most fun we have ever had as a band hands down!
Great shows....new great friends. Speaking of shows....the Baltimore show, are you kidding me! If you missed it, you missed IT! The Polyphonic Spree IS the best band in the world. Ok....I will get of the soap box. It was a moment, and life is full of them. Embrace. I am learning to.
Until next time....we do hope to see you at the Christmas show. Gonna be a good one. Bring the kiddos, and your Holiday Spirit. We love you guys...yes we do.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving, we have so much to be thankful for.

Wow....fun fun tour....and its coming to an end soon. If you haven't caught a show yet come out. Come at doors, have a cocktail, and check out all three bands. Its a really fun experience. We have made some new friendships within our band and out, and its going to be a bit sad to say goodbye. Being back with family, friends, will be good. Working on new projects will be exciting. Thank you for all your support. We do love you.

God Bless Texas! What a blast. Dallas it was so good to Rock the House of Blues with you. And Austin, that was a dirty rock show. Guys do you feel the music...its all happening!
Had to cancel Houston....some sick Rooney's going around.
Polyphonic decided to take a little road trip to New Orleans before the Florida show. Julie D road down too! On bus one we had wine, cheese, and watched The Way We Were. Beautiful. You must see, even our brutish sound guy Adam Fisher cried. See what a little estrogen will do in your life.
Anyhow....gonna hang here for today, and catch the Redwalls in action tonight.
Hope to see you out tomorrow.

Hello Everyone.
Amazing California shows. Halloween was a blast. Each band dressed up and played to a fantastic San Fransisco crowd. San Diego was just as fun. And a very very sweet fan made us all hand painted skateboards. Wow! Also Robert's ( from Rooney) mom was at the LA show. She had some nice things to say about Polyphonic.....

Tim DeLaughter and his robed 24-member choir can count a new convert to the musical movement that is the Polyphonic Spree: actress Talia Shire (Adrian, of Rocky fame), who grooved, bounced, and chanted along to the band from the core of what can only be described as a "Come to Jesus'' pit, which had formed at Hollywood's Henry Fonda theater on Friday night. Shire was there to see her son Robert Schwartzman's band, Rooney, open. (Shire, pictured with Schwartzman, also makes a cameo in their video for "When Did Your Heart Go Missing?".) But clutching a just-bought copy of the Spree's latest album, The Fragile Army, she was clearly impressed with the headliners. "It's like watching Hair," she told us as the Spree segued from a killer cover of Nirvana's "Lithium" to the psychedelic (and hence, Hair-like) "It's the Sun." "It's like a spectacle... they're so theatrical and visual, this should be on Broadway or, even better, an open-air stage." Ah, always the thespian. Besides, if the Flaming Lips can do it, why not this indie rock collective?

I am with the family now in Big D, and can't wait to rock House of Blues. We have a special treat for you.....

Fun Portland and Eugene shows.....geez the west coast is great. Lots of friendly excited people....thanks for your energy.
For those of you at the Eugene show, did you dig the dance party at the end? I thought it was kind of fun, Jennie said it was cheesy...(shes going to kill me)
Now Polyphonic's ready to rock Anaheim California....watch out Mickey Mouse!
Be sure to make the whole show...The Redwalls....fantastic, the quite charming Rooney boys, and of course The Polyphonic Spree.

Hi everyone.
We are here in Seattle today. Its really really cold, well at least for me. However Evan did point out that I am wearing peep toe shoes.....shall we move on.

Really looking forward to the show tonight. Its always a great crowd here. Also there is a great little place to eat in the museum a couple of blocks away...they have lavender martinis.....oops am I supposed to be blogging about the band?

So about to do sound check....I am antsy. I thinks its going to be a good one!

Listening to the Thumbsucker soundtrack. One of my favorite recordings of all time. You should light a candle dim the lights and listen with a friend. Its magical.
